About Sendai Macana
Sendai Macana is a live music venue located in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Japan. It originally opened in June 1996 and was situated along the bustling Ichibancho Yonchome Shopping Park arcade in Sendai’s downtown area. The venue is known for hosting a wide variety of live performances, encompassing genres such as rock, hardcore, mixture, and visual kei, catering to both major and indie artists as well as amateurs. Sendai Macana prides itself on its concept of providing a live club space that can be enjoyed by discerning music enthusiasts, boasting exceptional acoustics that deliver an immersive experience.
The venue faced a significant challenge on March 11, 2011, when the Great East Japan Earthquake caused severe damage to the building housing Macana. As a result, the building’s owner decided to demolish the structure, leading to a temporary closure of the venue. However, Sendai Macana made a comeback on October 8, 2011, by relocating to a new site along the Sun Mall Ichibancho Shopping Street, with the circuit event “MEGA☆ROCKS 2011” marking its reopening.
In 2022, Sendai Macana expanded its presence by opening a sister venue named ROCKATERIA on the former site of Hook SENDAI, which had closed at the end of 2019. This expansion reflects Macana’s ongoing commitment to fostering a vibrant music scene in Sendai.
The venue is located at 2-5-1 Ichibancho, Aoba-ku, Sendai, within the Daiichi Nomura Building B1F. It is conveniently accessible, being just a short walk from the Aoba-dori Ichibancho Station on the Sendai Subway Tozai Line.
