History and Development of Cross Club

Cross Club, located in the Holešovice district of Prague, Czech Republic, was founded in 2002 by a group of friends. Initially a small club, it has expanded over the years into a three-floor venue. The club hosts a variety of music performances, cultural events, and exhibitions, and includes a daytime cafe and restaurant on its premises.

Design and Facilities of Cross Club

The design of Cross Club is characterized by a steam-punk futuristic style, crafted primarily from scrap metal and other waste materials by the club’s DIY team. The space is dynamic, undergoing changes over time, and currently features two indoor stages, multiple bars, a cafe and restaurant, a theater, rehearsal studios, and an outdoor seating area and stage.

Musical and Cultural Focus

Cross Club is known for its focus on unconventional scenes and cultural diversity, favoring genres such as dub, dubstep, breakbeat, drum’n’bass, reggae, ska, punk rock, rockabilly, world music, and experimental music. The venue has hosted a wide range of performers, including Camo & Krooked, EZ3kiel, Zion Train, Congo Natty, Dreadzone Soundsystem, Jah Shaka, Che Sudaka, Transglobal Underground, High Tone, Bambounou, Ragga Twins, The Stooges, among others. In addition to music, the venue regularly holds presentations, discussions, screenings, and authors’ readings, primarily focusing on social topics.

Recognition and Impact

In 2014, Cross Club was recognized as one of the 25 best venues in Europe by an article published in The Guardian newspaper, highlighting its significance in the European live music scene.
